Top Orlando Lake Community: Conway Chain of Lakes

The Conway Chain of LakesAs one of the most sought after lake communities in the Orlando area, the Conway Chain of Lakes provides plenty of history, beautiful scenery and excellent waterfront properties. It's a very family-friendly area with plenty to offer for all ages. The close location to the entertainment, shopping, dining and attractions makes this one of the most popular choices for those relocating to the Orlando area.

The Real Estate

Many of the fine waterfront homes are found in Edgewood and Belle Isle. There's a wide variety of homes and different neighborhoods found throughout with original 1950s homes, along with newer multimillion dollar waterfront homes. Along with the many single-family homes, the area does offer some townhomes and condos.

Some properties can start as low as $175K, but many sell for well above $500K. The average price in Belle Isle is about $625K. As one of the more prestigious communities, the average price is higher in Belle Isle than in some of the other areas of the Conway Chain of Lakes.

The Lakes

A rich history is a huge part of the Conway Chain of Lakes. The chain consists of Lake Conway, Big Lake Conway, Lake Gatlin and many canals throughout. In addition, locals refer to the pools of the two main lakes as Middle Conway, Little Lake Conway and South Lake Conway.

The lake water has remained very healthy over the years with clear green waters. It's known as one of the best fishing spots with largemouth bass, catfish, crappie, bream and chain pickerel. Some of the holes in the lakes here go as deep as 30 feet, which is very deep for a Central Florida lake.

In addition to fishing, the lakes are great for watersports because they are so large and deep. You can navigate the canals year-round and find good water for just about any activity. Some of the water activities found here includes water skiing, wakeboarding and tubing. Many enjoy kayaking and canoeing, as well.

The Location

Found just minutes from Downtown Orlando and the Orlando International Airport, the location is rather unique for a lake community. It's also close to the SODO shopping district and many hospitals. Most of the homes are found in Belle Isle or Edgewood, which are small municipalities with their own police and other services.

Those living in the Conway Chain of Lakes Community have access to both public and private schools. The public schools in the area include:

Your event can include brunch, lunch or dinner, along with happy hour or receptions. Custom menus can be created for groups of 10 to 300. Canvas offers many different rooms including the Mosaic Room on the Water, Sapphire Room on the Water, Terrace on the Water, Amber Room on the Water and all the main areas.

The Canvas Restaurant & Bar

The restaurant serves dinner every night of the week and opens early on Sunday at 11am. Dinner starts at 5p each night, but the bar will open at 3pm each day.

The menu includes plenty of appetizers, smaller plates, flatbreads, entrees, salads, sandwiches, desserts and more. Options, such as Calamari Fries, Ponzu Pork Belly, Wagyu Beef Cheek Tamale, Margherita flatbread, Shrimp & Grits, Oak-grilled Cobia and plenty more. There's even a brunch menu for Sundays.

The bar serves up plenty of regular cocktails, along with beer and wine. Cocktails, such as the Spicy Gummy Bear, Silver Lining Martini and The French Quarter are all house options you can try. They also have local beer on tap, along with plenty of options in bottles.

Canvas Hours and Location

The Market is open from 7am to 8pm seven days a week, which includes the grab-and-go options and some to-go food options. The Restaurants is open from 5pm to 10pm, Monday through Thursday, from 5pm to 11pm on Friday and Saturday and from 11am to 9pm on Sunday. The bar opens at 3pm daily.

Top Orlando Lake Community: Butler Chain of Lakes

The Butler Chain of Lakes is a popular choice in Central Florida. It's one of the most sought-after lakefront areas in all of Florida with eleven total lakes. The most popular community within the Butler Chain of Lakes is called Windermere, which was established in 1889. This community has a population of around 2,000 residents and remains as one of the small, unique towns many love to call home.

Butler Chain of Lakes Real Estate

Some of the finest luxury real estate is found throughout the Windermere area. Many of the homes are situated on one of the lakes, a golf course or both. With incredible views and plenty of luxury amenities, the Butler Chain of Lakes area is one of the finest near Orlando.

Orlando Golf Communities Part 2

So many great golf communities are found throughout the Orlando area. Part one of this post featured some of the top choices, while the second part will expand on the many great options. If you prefer a golf community to call home, here are a few more excellent options.

Eagle Creek

A community located in the Southeast of Orlando, Eagle Creek is close to the Airport, shopping, dining and plenty of major highways. It's a semi-private golf club with a par-73 course. The homes are rather amazing with spec homes and vacant lots available.

The community is gated and when finished, Eagle Creek will include shopping, a hotel and an elementary school. Residents can even enjoy biking and hiking trails found throughout the community.

Golden Oak

Golden Oak is found at Walt Disney World Resort and provides luxury and privacy for residents. It's a newer gated community with multiple neighborhoods found throughout. Golden Oak provides a private clubhouse with an 18-hole golf course, restaurants and a spa.

Hunter's Creek

Found on the southern side of Orlando, Hunter's Creek provides a great location close to major business areas in Orlando. It's close to companies, such as Tupperware, martin Marietta and Harris. The community is also close to the airport and not far from downtown.

Orange Tree Country Club

Found near the central area of Orlando, Orange Tree provides a gated country club community with plenty to offer. The course was designed by Joe Lee and provides tree-lined fairways, fast greens and plenty of doglegs. Bermuda grass is used throughout the course and the finishing holes are rather amazing.

Reunion Resort

Those seeking resort-style living will love Reunion Resort. It features three 18-hole courses for golfers to enjoy one of each designed by golf legends Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson.  Reunion is also home to the Annika Sorenstam Academy.

Stoneybrook East

An east side of Orlando community, Stoneybrook East provides a convenient location for those commuting to downtown or the UCF area. It's a top section of the city for technology companies and plenty of choices, such as Siemens and Lockheed Martin are nearby. The area is also close to many biking and hiking trails.

Stoneybrook West

A western Orlando community in Winter Garden, Stoneybrook West provides a great location close to the 429 Beltway. The community is close to attractions and downtown with homes found around an 18-hole golf course.

Sweetwater Golf & Country Club

Found very close to Wekiva Springs State Park in Apopka, Sweetwater Golf & Country Club is a private, gated community. The club offers golf, tennis, fine dining and more. The course is known as the Highlands Course and provides a challenging layout for all golfers to enjoy.


A very desirable northern Orlando location found in Lake Mary, Timacuan is a great choice if you love golf. It's close to Sanford, the Seminole Town Center Mall and I-4. The course also provides one of the better practice ranges and areas in the surrounding Orlando area.


Found in Winter Springs, Tuskawilla provides a great setting with beautiful trees full of Spanish moss. It has a feel of the old south and an eclectic mix of large million dollar estates, condos and villas.

With so many great golf course communities throughout Orlando, it may be difficult to choose the right one. You really cannot go wrong with any on this list or the list from Part 1.

Orlando Golf Communities Part 1

Central Florida is certainly known for incredible golf. Plenty of great courses are found all throughout the area. Some of the golf courses are actually a part of golf communities throughout Orlando. Here's the first part of two highlighting some of the best golf communities in Orlando.


A beautiful community originally designed by Walt Disney, Celebration is a very walkable golf community. It was also one of the first green communities in the area. Residents enjoy excellent restaurants, plenty of shopping and so much more.

Isleworth Country Club

One of the most exclusive communities in the entire state, Isleworth is a gated country club community. The course here was designed by Arnold Palmer and it's not only a membership club, but also by invitation only. Tiger Woods is one of the members here, along with many other celebrities and PGA golfers.

Lake Nona Golf & Country Club

Another very prestigious golf community found in Orlando, Lake Nona provides a beautiful canopy of trees throughout the front nine. The purity of the course makes it one of the finest in the entire state. It was designed by Tom Fazio and has become the home of many professional golfers.

Windermere Country Club

A private, gated community with plenty to offer, Windermere Country Club is a true Florida country club community. It's found between Lake Roberts and Lake Crescent with a beautiful 18-hole course designed by Ward Northrup. The homes are executive-class and very large here.

Bay Hill Club & Lodge

Arnold Palmer's very famous Bay Hill is another great golf community found in Downtown Orlando. It hosts the Bay Hill invitation every year and includes three nine-hole courses for members to choose from. The homes give owners all types of luxuries and the club is one of the most popular in the area.

Magnolia Plantation

Not only does Magnolia Plantation provide excellent golf, but it's also served by some of the best schools in the city. It's found near the Wekiva River and provides easy access to I-4 and 417. Larger lots are found here for homeowners and a number of great amenities are offered.


Located very close to I-4, Heathrow is one of the top choices in the Heathrow/Lake Mary area. It's north of Orlando and provides an 18-hole private course designed by Ron Garl. In addition to the golf, there are 11 tennis courts, an Olympic-size swimming pool, a wading pool and plenty more.

Keene's Point

Covering a total of 930 acres, Keene's Point provides plenty for residents to enjoy. The 18-hole golf course was designed by Jack Nicklaus on the shores of Lake Tibet-Butler, Lake Burden and Lake Isleworth. While the course is rather pristine, the homes here are also incredible. Many larger, multi-million dollar homes are found here.

There are several excellent golf communities throughout Orlando. The communities listed here are some of the best in the area. Many of these communities are home to top PGA golfers, celebrities and top business executives and the golf courses were designed by some of the best in the business.

New Retail Stores & Restaurants at Lake Nona Landing

A total of 625,369 square feet will make up the newest shopping center found in Lake Nona. This new shopping center will be called Lake Nona Landing. Soon, new retailers and restaurants will take over this square footage adding even more choices to the Lake Nona Area.

New Stores Added to the Shopping Center

The majority of the shopping center will include many shops. The center will be anchored by a Lowe's Home Improvement Store, which will cover 158,000 square feet. This will add to the other anchor stores, which include:

  • Sam's Club
  • Walmart Supercenter
  • TJ Maxx

The TJ Maxx is another new store announced and will cover 20,000 square feet. The new Walmart Supercenter and Sam's Club have already opened, along with a few other shops and restaurants in the area. This was the first Walmart in the area to open and both Walmart and Sam's Club represent store-of-the0futre designs including pick-up services, interactive product tables, a sushi bar and mobile scan and go check out. The anchor stores will take up the largest amount of space within the shopping center. However, many other stores are already open or will be added to the Lake Nona Landing shopping center including:

  • Mattress One
  • Anthony Jewelers
  • UPS
  • GNC
  • AT&T
  • Lee Nails & Spa
  • Sports Clips

These stores are all a part of this new shopping center bringing many new options to the Lake Nona neighborhood.

Restaurants Coming to Lake Nona Landing

Along with the retail options, Lake Nona Landing will include plenty of new restaurants. Most recently, Rubio's Coastal Grill and Firehouse Subs have been added to the plans. These are two of the many restaurants coming to the shopping center. Other restaurants include:

  • Chili's
  • PDQ
  • Pollo Tropical
  • Dunkin Donuts
  • Starbucks
  • Jersey Mike's
  • Tropical Cafe

Other restaurants are also expected to be a part of the shopping center.

Other Things to Know About Lake Nona Landing

  • About 86% of the 625,369-square-foot shopping center has been leased. This does leave room for a few more stores or restaurants to move in.
  • The shopping center opened in January of 2017 and has been filling up ever since.
  • The Walmart features the first organic restaurants option for the company. The restaurant is called Grown and it was started by Ray Allen (two-time NBA Champion) and his wife.
  • After full development, the shopping center will cover about 53 acres of land in Lake Nona.
  • Lake Nona Landing is located along the Narcoossee Corridor, which serves the most popular communities in Lake Nona.
  • The shopping center also features an ABC liquor store and RaceTrac convenience store and gas station.
  • Lowe's Home Improvement store within the shopping center will feature a garden center and indoor lumber yard.

Lake Nona Landing represents just one of the many developments throughout the Lake Nona area. It has already brought the first Walmart and Sam's Club to the area. Residents will now have even more shopping and dining options right in their backyard.

Top Central Florida Retirement Communities

It's no secret; Central Florida is a very popular area for retirees. With a warm, year-round climate and a location found within a short drive of the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean, it draws many retirees every single year. On Top of the World

Its home to three 18-home golf courses, multiple clubhouses, both indoor and outdoor swimming pools and many more amenities. The community provides more than 10,000 homes with a wide variety of size and price options. Many homes provide excellent golf course views or views of the rolling hills throughout Ocala.


An affordable 55+ community in a prime location, Solivita is found in Kissimmee, Florida. New Urbanism Communities in Orlando

It started as just an idea, but has exploded into the normal way communities are created in Florida. New Urbanism has spread all throughout the state, especially in the Orlando area. With many retirees and other homebuyers seeking a small-town feel without the strip malls and suburban sprawl, New Urbanism communities have been popping up all around the city. Here's a look at some of the most popular New Urbanism communities near Orlando.


The master-planned community of Celebration is found in Osceola County was built by Disney & provides one of the most desirable locations in Central Florida. It's adjacent to Disney World and many other attractions. The town was started in 1994 and it's home to about 8,000 people today.

Homes in Celebration are organized into villages around a compact downtown area. The downtown includes civic buildings and the real estate ranges in price quite a bit.

Baldwin Park

An award-winning community for New Urbanism, Baldwin Park provides a very popular neighborhood found in Orlando. It took over the site of the former Orlando Naval Training Center and covers more than 1,000 acres of space. Located just two miles from Downtown Orlando, Baldwin Park is a very popular spot for those working in Orlando.

The changes started in 1998 and have continued ever since. When the base shutdown, it let a bit of a hole in Orlando, which Baldwin Park has been about to fill. Throughout the neighborhood are business districts helping to provide a small town feel, even though Baldwin Park is most-known as a suburb of Orlando.

Avalon Park

Another New Urbanism community found near Orlando is Avalon Park. It's located in Orange County and may also be known as a Neo-Traditionalism community.

The community covers more than 1,800 acres of land and the homes are organized into villages around a Town Center. Real estate ranges from single-family homes to apartments to town homes and even condominiums. The design also includes restaurants, retail space and plenty of area businesses.

Avalon Park is located about 31 miles from Disney World and 26 miles from Universal Orlando. It's found south of State Road 40 and east of Alafaya Trail.

Laureate Park in Lake Nona

A much newer community to the Orlando area, Laureate Park is still in the growing phases. Once completed, the community will include many amenities, such as swimming pools and fitness centers. It will also include a village center with dining, retail space and plenty of parks throughout.

Found just one mile from Medical City, this New Urbanism community has become popular with those working in the Medical City business.

Many of the neighborhoods within Laureate Park are under construction, while some do offer move-in ready homes, as well. A variety of styles and floor plans are available with the ability to customize a new construction home to fit your specific needs.
