McCoy Community Park is a 25-acre City of Orlando park at 7945 Dowden Road, Orlando, FL 32827, inside Lake Nona. It has four baseball and softball fields with bleachers, scoreboards and lights, plus a concession stand, restrooms, a playground, a small pavilion and a paved walking path. The city lists its hours as 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. It opened in January 2020 as the second of Lake Nona's two City of Orlando parks, after Heroes Community Park. It is not on McCoy Road, which lies on the opposite side of Orlando International Airport.

McCoy Community Park is a ballfield park, and it is better at that one job than anything else nearby. If your child plays baseball or softball, you will probably spend a lot of evenings here. If you want a splash pad, a soccer field or a long nature walk, you are at the wrong park, and the rest of this guide tells you where to go instead.

The earlier version of this post had the park in the wrong place, on the wrong road and at the wrong size. This rewrite fixes all three against the city's own listing, and adds the two things the city does not tell you: why your GPS may send you to the wrong McCoy, and why you cannot simply book a diamond for a Saturday game.

Where exactly is McCoy Community Park?

McCoy Community Park is at 7945 Dowden Road on the north side of Lake Nona, west of Narcoossee Road and beside Northlake Park.

It is inside Lake Nona, not near it. The park sits on Dowden Road in ZIP code 32827, directly north of Water's Edge, with Northlake Park wrapping around its eastern side. Families in those two neighborhoods can reach it on foot.

It is also east of Orlando International Airport, not south of it, as some directories put it. The park lies roughly 3 miles due east of the center of the airport, in a straight line. The drive from the Northlake Park side is short; the drive from the airport side means going around the airfield.

Is McCoy Community Park on McCoy Road?

No. McCoy Road is on the opposite side of the airport, and typing "McCoy Road" into a map app will send you the wrong way.

McCoy Road runs along the airport's north and west side, near SR 528, Jetport Drive and the Southport baseball complex. McCoy Community Park is on Dowden Road, on the airport's east side. The two share a name and nothing else. For directions, use the street address, 7945 Dowden Road, not the park's name or the road it sounds like it should be on.

What does McCoy Community Park have?

McCoy has four lighted baseball and softball fields, a concession stand and restrooms, a playground, a small pavilion, open green space around a fountain pond, and a paved walking path.

The four diamonds are sized for different age groups: one Babe Ruth/Pony field, one softball field and two Little League fields. All of them have dugouts, bleachers and scoreboards, and the lights are there for weeknight games. A shaded concession building with restrooms sits in the middle of the complex.

Away from the fields, the playground now has new shade structures, which the city's parks department highlighted in 2026. There is a single small pavilion, open lawn, and a pond with a fountain that the walking path circles. The path ties into Lake Nona's trail network, so nearby residents can walk or bike in.

Can you reserve a field or the pavilion at McCoy?

Not the fields, at least not through the city's public rental list, which does not include McCoy.

The City of Orlando publishes a list of baseball fields anyone can rent on a first-come, first-served basis. As of September 2026, McCoy is not on it. The fields were built for organized youth league play, and there is no public booking route for a private game or a team practice. If you coach, the way onto these diamonds is through a league.

The pavilion is a separate question. The city lists it as small, and its park reservation system is where to check whether it can be booked for a birthday party. Do not plan a party around it until you have a confirmation in hand. The older version of this post said McCoy's covered picnic areas could often be reserved; nothing the city publishes supports that.

Why is it called McCoy Community Park?

The city has not published an explanation for the name, and we could not find one.

What is documented: the park was planned under the working name East Airfield Park, a name that still turns up in older local coverage. It is the second of Lake Nona's two City of Orlando parks. Heroes Community Park opened first, in July 2019, and McCoy followed with its opening in January 2020.

The likely source of the name is the airport next door. Orlando International was once McCoy Air Force Base, which is why its code is still MCO. A ballfield park planned as "East Airfield" ending up named McCoy fits that history. That link is our inference, though, not something the city has stated.

McCoy or Heroes Community Park: which one do you need?

McCoy is the diamond park; Heroes is the rectangle-field park.

The two city parks were built as a pair and split the work. McCoy has four baseball and softball fields and no multipurpose fields. Heroes Community Park, near Laureate Park Elementary and across the water from the VA hospital, has four lighted multi-use fields for soccer, lacrosse and similar sports, and serves as a trailhead for the Orlando Southeast Trail.

The older version of this post described families pausing "soccer games" at McCoy. There is nowhere at McCoy to play one. If your household plays both kinds of sport, expect to know both parks.

  • It does one thing. No multipurpose fields, courts, splash pad or dog park.
  • The fields are not on the city's public rental list, so a pickup game or private practice has no booking route.
  • One small pavilion is not much for a park this size if you are planning a party.
  • Its neighbor is a major airport. The park sits parallel to the runways, so jets do not pass overhead, but you will hear them.

Our Take: For a baseball or softball family in north Lake Nona, McCoy is the park that shapes your spring. For anyone else it is a pleasant walking loop with a playground, and nothing to plan a day around. Buying a home that backs onto the park? Visit on a weeknight while games are on before you decide, because lights, scoreboards and game traffic are the whole point of this park.

What the neighbors know

The people who get the most out of McCoy live close enough to walk to it.

In Northlake Park and Water's Edge, McCoy works like a shared back yard: a paved loop for evening walks, a playground within reach, and league games down the street. For bigger outdoor days, residents drive to Moss Park or Split Oak Forest, both of which are much larger and far wilder than a city ballfield park.
