Amazon announced the project in July 2017 and opened it in 2018. It sits near Boggy Creek Road and Jeff Fuqua Boulevard, south of Orlando International Airport, in the Lake Nona Airport Business Park. How Do the Robots Work at MCO1?
Amazon Robotics drive units carry shelving pods to employees at their stations, so workers pick and stow items without walking the aisles.
MCO1 is what Amazon calls a “robotics sortable” site, handling items smaller than a microwave. The low, flat robots slide under storage pods and bring them to workers, while more than 15 miles of conveyor move packages through the building. Spectrum News 13 described the building in 2023 as the size of 14 football fields, holding more than 40 million items.

Amazon opened MCO1 with 1,500 full-time jobs, and Spectrum News 13 reported about 3,000 workers there during the 2023 holiday season.
