Ask around Lake Nona about elementary schools and Eagle Creek comes up early. It has the grade history to back that up. What it doesn't have is the backstory most listings give it. The school is younger than a lot of what's written about it says, and it opened with more students than it was built for.

Eagle Creek Elementary is at 10025 Eagle Creek Sanctuary Blvd, Orlando, FL 32832, just outside the gates of the Eagle Creek community on Lake Nona's south side.

The neighborhoods closest to it are Eagle Creek, the guard-gated golf community off Narcoossee Road, and the two Nona Sound neighborhoods, Cove at Nona Sound and Estates at Nona Sound. Because the school sits outside the Eagle Creek gates, parents dropping off don't pass through the guardhouse. Lake Nona Middle School is about 0.6 miles away. Being near a school, though, is not the same as being zoned for it. More on that below.

When did Eagle Creek Elementary open?

Eagle Creek Elementary opened in August 2015. Descriptions that say 2012, including an earlier version of this post, are wrong.

The school's own history page gives 2015, and the local paper covered its dedication ceremony on November 18, 2015, where students buried a time capsule to be opened on the school's 20th anniversary. That puts the dig in 2035.

The opening itself tells you how fast this part of Lake Nona was growing. Reporting that fall said the campus was built for a maximum of 786 students and opened with 962. OCPS was already planning another elementary on Laureate Boulevard to take the pressure off. Eagle Creek has been sharing students with newer schools ever since.
