New Urbanism Communities in Orlando

It started as just an idea, but has exploded into the normal way communities are created in Florida. New Urbanism has spread all throughout the state, especially in the Orlando area. With many retirees and other homebuyers seeking a small-town feel without the strip malls and suburban sprawl, New Urbanism communities have been popping up all around the city. Here's a look at some of the most popular New Urbanism communities near Orlando.

The master-planned community of Celebration is found in Osceola County was built by Disney & provides one of the most desirable locations in Central Florida. It's adjacent to Disney World and many other attractions. The town was started in 1994 and it's home to about 8,000 people today.

Homes in Celebration are organized into villages around a compact downtown area. The downtown includes civic buildings and the real estate ranges in price quite a bit.

Baldwin Park

An award-winning community for New Urbanism, Baldwin Park provides a very popular neighborhood found in Orlando. It took over the site of the former Orlando Naval Training Center and covers more than 1,000 acres of space. Located just two miles from Downtown Orlando, Baldwin Park is a very popular spot for those working in Orlando.

The changes started in 1998 and have continued ever since. When the base shutdown, it let a bit of a hole in Orlando, which Baldwin Park has been about to fill. Throughout the neighborhood are business districts helping to provide a small town feel, even though Baldwin Park is most-known as a suburb of Orlando.

Avalon Park

Another New Urbanism community found near Orlando is Avalon Park. It's located in Orange County and may also be known as a Neo-Traditionalism community.

The community covers more than 1,800 acres of land and the homes are organized into villages around a Town Center. Real estate ranges from single-family homes to apartments to town homes and even condominiums. The design also includes restaurants, retail space and plenty of area businesses.

Avalon Park is located about 31 miles from Disney World and 26 miles from Universal Orlando. It's found south of State Road 40 and east of Alafaya Trail.

Laureate Park in Lake Nona

A much newer community to the Orlando area, Laureate Park is still in the growing phases. Once completed, the community will include many amenities, such as swimming pools and fitness centers. It will also include a village center with dining, retail space and plenty of parks throughout.

Found just one mile from Medical City, this New Urbanism community has become popular with those working in the Medical City business.

Many of the neighborhoods within Laureate Park are under construction, while some do offer move-in ready homes, as well. A variety of styles and floor plans are available with the ability to customize a new construction home to fit your specific needs.

Orlando has many communities falling under the design trends of New Urbanism. These are just a few of the most well-known options and many others are expected as this trend continues to grow throughout Central Florida.
